About Me

At Badachu Park, Beijing (May 2009)

Welcome to Huolong Blog! I’m Chang Guohua (screen name: Huolong, 活龙). I live in Beijing, China.

I grew up in Shibazhan, a very small mountain town in Heilongjiang province, China. I worked in Harbin, capital city of Heilongjiang from February 2000 until late November 2002 when I came to Beijing, where I’ve worked ever since. All my work experience is in Chinese/English translation though my last job in Harbin, which lasted two years and two months, also involved plenty of website designing and online content management (ok, it’s just creating and editing webpages, storing and uploading them…). Though I didn’t actually become a website designer or a programmer later, I did learn a lot about online presence in the cyberspace. That’s why I could set up my WordPress blogs on a U.S.-based shared hosting computer. I’d just guessed and bluffed my way through the whole process.

After I came to Beijing, I found another translating position with a small consultancy that specialized in delivering market research reports on the Chinese markets to European clients. Nine months later in July 2003, I started working for China Daily’s translation unit until 2007.

  • This blog is really interesting. your English writing skills are very good. I admire your effort improving this secondary language.

  • Thanks darshana! My idea is that if I use Chinese (my mother tongue) and English well enough, more than half of the world can understand me and I can understand more than half of the world, at least linguistically. That’s cool!

  • Glad to see that you are back to the blogworld, and I hope to read many new posts here from you soon!

  • Thanks JR! Actually, my English blog has remained silent for months. But my Chinese blog has always been sort of active, though one or two posts each month! :-)
